What We Do Best?

In order to further the aims and objects of the Institution the Council may at their discretion set up Branches of the Institution in Tanzania for the holding of meetings, for the reading of papers and for discussions on subjects, or for other activities, falling within the purview of the Institution and the Council shall have power to dissolve any such Branch at any time. The Council may appoint individual representatives to carry out the duties of a Branch at its own discretion.

Every member whose registered address is within the area of a Branch shall be deemed to be attached to that Branch and if he changes his place of residence to the area of another Branch he shall be transferred to that Branch.

SPECIALIST GROUPS OF THE INSTITUTION

According to the IET Constitution Section 17 says: In order to further the aims and objects of the Institution the Council may at their discretion establish Specialist Groups of the Institution. Membership of such Specialist Groups shall be open to all members of the Institution who declare that they are interested in the activities of the Group. The Specialist Groups are includes Chapters and Divisions:

The Women Chapter of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) is one of the chapters established by IET in order to further the aims and objectives of the institution for details.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The Chapter aims at supporting and promoting the engineering profession, pursue professional excellence and provide a responsive service for women Engineers in Tanzania.

The specific objectives and purposes of the Chapter are to promote the general advancement of the Science and Practice in Engineering and its applications, and to facilitate exchange of information and ideas on those subjects amongst the members of the chapter.

The chapter also;

  • Promotes the objectives of the IET amongst the women members and encourage them to explain and promote the role of engineers in the wider community.
  • Presents the interests and opportunities for professional development to women members of the Chapter.
  • Creates or establishes and maintains a database of women engineers.
  • Sets-up training schemes such as professional lectures, short term seminars in engineering etc.
  • Participates in building up local capacity of engineering skills and technical abilities.
  • Encourages the promotion of Women Engineers towards Registration with Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania (ERB) and Corporate Membership of IET.
  • Identifies problems facing women Engineers in particular and Engineers in general.
  • Advices concerned bodies on possible and feasible solutions to the problems facing the engineering profession and engineering science in general.
  • Holds meetings of the chapter for readings and discussions bearing upon engineering science or the application thereof or upon subjects relating thereof.
  • Co-operates in public educational with universities, educational institutions authorities for the furtherance of education, training and practice in engineering profession and to maintain contact with engineering industry.
  • Solicit whenever possible for employment opportunities for women engineers
  • Do all other things incidental or conductive to realize the objectives of the Chapter

FUNCTIONS:

The Chapter shall engage in any of the following functions;

  • Co-ordinate the Women Engineers
  • Organize regional and continental visits of women members for the purposes of increasing awareness to its members on current issues
  • Organize social functions for the women members for the furtherance of the spirit of professional achievement sharing
  • Plan, organize and conduct various fund raising activities to support the targeted aims.
  • Any other function as deemed fit to the Chapter that will be of beneficial to the furtherance of aims and objectives of the IET.

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership is open to all women members of the Institution who declare that they are interested in the activities of the chapter.

The Military Chapter of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) is one of the chapters established by IET in order to further the aims and objectives of the institution for details.

The Graduate Chapter of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) is one of the chapters established by IET in order to further the aims and objectives of the institution for details.

The Graduate Chapter aims at supporting and promoting the engineering profession, pursue professional excellence and provide a responsive service for Graduate Engineers in Tanzania.

The specific objectives and purposes of the Chapter are to promote the general advancement of the Science and Practice in Engineering and its applications, and to facilitate exchange of information and ideas on those subjects amongst the members of the chapter.

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership is open to all Graduate members of the Institution who declare that they are interested in the activities of the chapter.

The application forms are available at IET offices and on the website.

The Student Chapter of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET) is one of the chapters established by IET in order to further the aims and objectives of the institution at Institutions of Higher Learning. 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership of such students’ Chapters shall open to all bonafide students of the training institutions who declare that they are interested in the activities of the chapter.

These are specialist groups established by IET in order to further the aims and objectives of the institution for details. All specialist groups of IET will follow the constitution of IET and will be guided by Bylaws.

Members of the Division shall consist of all persons from time to time elected or transferred to any class of membership in accordance with the IET Bye-laws and whose professional specializations fall within discipline.

The name and address of every member of the Division shall be entered in the Register maintained at the Head Office of the Division.
